Attending a city meeting
Attending a city meeting may seem stressful, but it’s easier than you think! This guide will walk you through the process.
Step one: Find your meeting time & location
Most city meetings unfortunately happen during the workday, so it may be challenging for you to attend.
We’ve built a handy calendar to the right based on Google Calendar. From there you can click on a meeting and add it to your calendar.
You can also use the city’s calendar here.
All city meetings are open to the public, unless the board is in a closed session.
Step two: Get organized
Whether or not you are attending a city meeting, it’s a good idea to take a moment to get organized before you go.
Reflect on why you are going - do you just want to learn about something, or do you want to change something?
It’s always nice to give the people in charge of the meeting a heads up that you are coming. You can find their contact information on the page for the meeting body - click here if it’s a board or commission and here if it is council-related.
If you are planning to speak on an issue, make some notes in advance of what you want to say.
