North Limestone Road Diet / KU Tree Cutting Policy & Waste Management / Get Engaged / Updates from Last Week / This Week in City Government
🔎 - Big Topic: North Limestone Road Diet
Traffic Engineer Grace Foley will present a proposal for a Road Diet on North Limestone. D1 CM James Brown also worked extensively on this proposal.
A Road Diet is generally described as "removing travel lanes from a roadway and utilizing the space for other uses and travel modes. "by the Federal Highway Administration.
This proposal comes from multiple citizen concerns, like; Speeding, frequent collisions, head-on collisions at 7th street, lack of safety for cyclists and pedestrians, parked car sideswipes, and racing vehicles.
According to traffic counts and the Lexington Police Department data, from December 2015 to December 2020, there have been 149 collisions. These collisions have caused 45 injuries, and 3 have involved pedestrians. 49 out of the 149 crashes have involved a parked vehicle.
The traffic calming road diet approach for North Limestone will include a few changes to mitigate these issues;
Reduce lane width and adjust signal timing to improve speeding issues
Reduce vehicle speed and create bicycle lanes to improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists.
Add one-way notices on the pavement to mitigate wrong-way driving issues, including head-on collisions.
Limit road to one travel lane to reduce street racing.
Add more space between the parking lane and travel lane to reduce sideswipes.

Solid Waste Management Five Year Plan Update January 2023 - December 2027
LFUCG will soon adopt an updated Solid Waste Management Plan.
By Kentucky law, each county must create and submit a five-year waste management plan and create an Advisory Committee consisting of one resident from the local business community, one local resident, and one local industry representative.
Here are the goals of this five-year plan;
Study large-scale biodigestion (or composting) disposal system
Improve Leachate Treatment at Haley Pike Landfill
Grow the carton recycling program
Look for closer options for recycling glass
Seek more opportunities for recycled commodities with cleaner output resulting from new machinery.
More information for this plan can be accessed by calling the Division of Waste Management at 859-280-8578 or by email at WasteManagement@Lexingtonky.gov. To submit a public comment, contact the division using the above information until August 4, 2022. Any resident can also use this information to request a public hearing.

🗞 - Updates from Last Week: The Board of Adjustment approves the Lexington Sporting Club soccer facility.
In the Board of Adjustment special meeting last week, the Board approved a proposal for a 12-field youth soccer facility on a 147-acre plot of land owned by Anderson Communities. The address is 2501 Russell Cave Road. Typically, sporting facilities are not allowed on an A-R property- but this facility has been granted a conditional use permit.
Here are some changes from the Board in this conditional use permit:
Conditions 16 and 19 have been removed.
Condition 17 stays, but the Board has removed the sentence, "No tournaments shall occur during horse sale events or for three days before the first sale day of the event."
Condition 14 stays, but the statement "the like" has been replaced with "substantially similar to."
Condition 15 states the hours of operation for the facility. Instead of operating the hours, 9am to 9pm, it has been changed to 7:30am to 9:30pm.
The Board of Adjustment is the final authority on this decision. The Division of Building Inspection and Engineering must receive permits from the club before construction begins. Aggrieved parties have 30 days from June 28 to appeal the decision of the Board of Adjustment to the Fayette County Circuit Court.
Email the Board at planningmailboxemail@lexingtonky.gov and your council members if you have an issue with this decision.
