Council set to adopt a Vision Zero Policy

In Tuesday’s Council Work Session, Council will take the first step in adopting a Vision Zero Policy.

Vision Zero is a multi-national road safety project designed to eliminate traffic deaths and serious injuries through improvements to street and transportation safety. Under Lexington’s proposed policy, the city would commit to achieving zero traffic deaths and serious injuries annually by 2050. The policy is designed to work alongside the City’s existing Complete Streets Policy and would require divisions within LFUCG to coordinate on transportation projects to improve safety for all road users.

As part of the Imagine New Circle Road improvement project, Lexington was given funding to hire a Vision Zero Coordinator. This new role will manage projects and set interim goals to help the city meet its Vision Zero commitment.

Council will likely vote to advance the policy in Work Session. If they do, the policy would receive a First Reading on May 8th’s Council Meeting and a Second Reading, with a final vote of approval, on May 29th.

You can read the resolution adopting this policy here.

Council Work Session will be held on Tuesday, April 29th at 3pm. You can attend in-person or watch live on LexTV.
