Home stretch on updating Council Rules

The Subcommittee on Council Rules and Procedures met last week, the week of July 3rd, to review the changes that they have made so far. This group has been meeting since February to update and modernize the rules followed by the Urban County Council and Council staff. Some of the updates they’ve made so far include:

  • Acknowledging any new social media platforms that have increased in use since the last update, such as TikTok

  • Language changes to make all the rules gender-neutral by using “Councilmember” and singular they/them pronouns

  • Clarifying intentions between rules, requirements, and best practices

This subcommittee will meet again before Council’s Summer Break to finish their review of the rules, which will be presented to the General Government & Planning Committee for discussion and adoption in August.

The Subcommittee on Council Rules and Procedures will meet on Tuesday, July 11th at 10am in the 5th Floor Conference Room at City Hall. You can attend this meeting in person.
