New street tree regulations proposed

The Environmental Quality and Public Works (EQPW) Committee heard proposed changes to Street Tree regulations and The Hazardous Street Trees Program. Many of the updates simply reflect changes that have already occurred since the last update in 1994, including the Urban Forestry Position moving Divisions and the creation and reorganization of Departments and Divisions since 1994. Some noteworthy changes include:

  • Height designation changes for trees that could interfere with power lines

  • Changes to Tree Board Membership eligibility

  • Expanding The Hazardous Street Tree Cost-Share program to include subdivisions and residential areas outside the Urban Service Area.

You can view the presentation slides here.

The proposed changes to the program guidelines were passed by the Committee and were voted on in the same day's Council Work Session. The changes also received their first reading in February 9th's Council Meeting, and will go up for second reading on February 16th.
