Boards and Commissions
What are they? What do they do? How do I get involved?
The Lexington Fayette Urban County Government has several Boards and Commissions that work to address various issues impacting the city.
Joining a city Board or Commission is a great way to have a direct and meaningful impact on the issues you care about. Many city ordinances and resolutions begin as recommendations from these meeting bodies.
LFUCG has 70 Boards and Commissions that are made up of Urban County Council Members, city staff, field experts, and Lexington community members. Anyone can apply to fill a vacant seat on a city board or commission, though sometimes there are certain criteria or qualifications that a group is trying recruit for when considering new volunteers.
How can I join a Board or Commission?
You can apply to be on any board or commission that has a vacancy through the LFUCG website!
When you submit an application, it is reviewed and recommended by the Mayor's administration and then voted on by Urban County Council. If you are appointed to sit on one of these meeting bodies, you can go to a council meeting and hear them read your name out!
You can find a list of all the vacancies, as well as information on the application process here.
