Richard hosts fellows from the German Marshall Fund

Last week, Richard co-hosted a group of six European dignitaries from the German Marshall Fund’s Marshall Memorial Fellowship. The six fellows from Armenia, Belgium, France, Poland, Slovenia, and Basque Spain spent three days exploring Lexington and Kentucky.

As alums of the program, Richard and co-host Jen Algire of the Greater Clark Foundation designed an agenda that took the fellows across Central Kentucky. The fellows met with over 50 Kentuckians to learn first-hand about the issues impacting our state. Here are some highlights:

  • Meeting with elected officials like Secretary of State Michael Adams, Commissioner of Agriculture Ryan Quarles, and several members of the Urban County Council

  • Traveling to Estill County to learn about the issues impacting rural Kentucky

  • Learning about how Lexington is navigating the global issues of civic participation, race, climate change, and youth empowerment

  • Experiencing Central Kentucky’s signature industries of agriculture, bourbon, and horses

You can read more of Richard’s reflections on the program here.
