School’s out but civic education continues!

Last Friday, our Director of Civic Education Stephanie Mobley, Megan Brandon from Generation Citizen and Aaron Davis, Fayette County Public Schools (FCPS) Social Studies Instructional Specialist, met with our teacher cohort from each of the seven FCPS high schools to continue their work on incorporating project-based civics focused on local government into the FCPS curriculum.

During these sessions, Stephanie and the teacher cohort spent time discussing how to get students more engaged with local government, the importance of community engagement, and making connections to local leaders/organizations. They even took a field trip to City Hall and met with 3rd District Councilmember Hannah LeGris, who explained more about her role as council member and how she sees students engaging with local government. The room was brewing with ideas and everyone left with enthusiasm for this work continuing in the 2023-2024 school year!
