A Caring Place will discuss the village model of care

In Tuesday’s Social Services and Public Safety (SSPS) Committee, Roxanne Chaney of A Caring Place will present an overview of the organization’s mission and work, alongside a request for funding from LFUCG.

A Caring Place is a nonprofit that is coordinating a “village” model of community service for seniors in Lexington. A village consists of a central nonprofit connecting volunteers, churches, neighborhood associations, and others to seniors who may be suffering from loneliness as a result of their age.

A Caring Place is an entirely volunteer-driven organization that trains volunteers to provide several services for seniors in Lexington, including:

  • Calling seniors for wellness check-ins, or simply to have a conversation.

  • Delivering meals for those who are food insecure.

  • Helping seniors apply for government or nonprofit assistance programs.

  • Home visits.

Their goal is to help seniors be connected with others in Lexington while being able to comfortably age in place without needing to move from their homes to receive services.

A Caring Place wants to expand and grow their operations. Their presentation slides include a request of $150,000 from LFUCG to fund a feasibility study to help them learn how they can best expand their scope.

You can review the presentation slides starting on page three of this packet.

The Social Services an Public Safety Committee will meet on Tuesday, October 8th at 1pm in Council Chambers. You can attend in-person or watch live on LexTV.
