Councilmember Monarrez files appeal of interpersonal protective order
District 4 Councilmember Brenda Monarrez has filed an appeal of the interpersonal protective order issued against her. At an undetermined future date, a three-judge panel will be established to hear Monarrez’s appeal.
In her filing, Monarrez requested an “emergency relief” be granted, which would have temporarily paused the protective order against her. Judge Kelley Mark Easton declined to grant the relief, so the order is still in place for the time being.
The protective order, requested by 6th District Councilmember Denise Gray, prevents Monarrez from being within 500 feet of Gray, Gray’s home, and City Hall for three years. Councilmember Monarrez is allowed to attend Council meetings virtually and perform her Council duties from home.
Councilmember Gray alleges that Councilmember Monarrez has sexually harassed and assaulted Gray on two separate occasions. Monarrez has denied all allegations.
