Stormwater Drainage and Flooding Program Update
Also in Tuesday’s Environmental Quality and Public Works (EQPW) Committee meeting, the committee heard project overviews, positive outcomes, challenges, and future opportunities for the Stormwater Drainage and Flooding Program.
The city has a list of areas/projects that are priorities for their stormwater drainage and flooding program.
How does a property get considered for the stormwater priority list?
Flooding from storms has to meet the 25-year historical high of 5.23 inches, there has to be building structure flooding, or there must be at least one foot of water in the driving lane, or the crown of the road isn't visible from flooding.
Projects must be on the list for two years before action is taken.
Since 2011, LFUCG has spent $24,646,232 on priority stormwater projects. There are currently 30 remaining priority stormwater projects for 2022.
Southland/Wolf Run and Woodhill/Peachtree areas are among the completed projects.
LFUCG has had some challenges in completing projects, causing a backlog. Supply chain issues and general concrete and material shortages have caused this backlog.
Other projects like Mentelle Park, Idle Hour Dr., and Gainesway Dr will be further evaluated.
Council members agreed that that since 2018 and barring 2020, more and more Stormwater projects have been completed each year. There were no motions made from this update.
