Last week, Ed Holmes of EHI Consulting presented an overview of the Homelessness Emergency Shelter Feasibility Study they conducted to evaluate how many emergency homeless shelter beds are needed in Lexington, and what it would look like financially for LFUCG to develop a new homeless emergency shelter.

In Tuesday’s Council Work Session, EHI Consultants will present an overview of the Homelessness Shelter Feasibility Study. This study identifies how many additional homelessness shelter beds are needed in Lexington, how much it would cost LFUCG to develop and operate a homeless shelter, and four specific sites in Lexington that a shelter could be built.

This Tuesday, the Social Services and Public Safety (SSPS) Committee will discuss a proposed ordinance regulating sober living homes. Sober living homes are residences, privately owned and operated, reserved specifically for individuals recovering from substance use disorders. Sober living homes do not provide any counseling or support services; they are simply housing units rented only to people in recovery.

In Tuesday’s Social Services and Public Safety (SSPS) Committee, Homelessness Prevention Manager Jeff Heron will present a history of how Lexington has managed street outreach services to homeless individuals, as well as outlining a request for a new Encampment Manager Position in the upcoming Fiscal Year 2026 Budget.

In Tuesday’s Social Services and Public Safety (SSPS) Committee, Council will hear a presentation on Partners for Youth from Executive Director Shanreka Shackelford.

Partners For Youth aims to promote positive youth development and prevent juvenile delinquency through college scholarships, grants for organizations that work with youth, youth development programs, and community collaborations.

In Tuesday’s Social Services and Public Safety (SSPS) Committee, Council will hear an update on the Family Care Center from the Director of Family Services, Sheila Horton-Holt.
