Three Council Committees select new leadership

On Tuesday, January 14th, three Council Committees selected their Chairs and Vice Chairs for the next Council term. The Chair of a Committee facilitates Committee meetings and sets meeting agendas. The Vice Chair serves in place of the Chair if the Chair is absent from a meeting.
The new Committee leadership and general memeberships are:
Social Services and Public Safety Committee.
11th District Councilmember Jennifer Reynolds, Committee Chair
9th District Councilmember Whitney Elliott Baxter, Vice Chair
Vice Mayor Dan Wu
At-Large Councilmember Chuck Ellinger
1st District Councilmember Tyler Morton
2nd District Councilmember Shayla Lynch
6th District Councilmember Denise Gray
7th District Councilmember Joseph Hale
8th District Councilmember Amy Beasley
12th District Councilmember Hilary Boone.
Councilmembers Reynolds and Baxter served as the Chair and Vice Chair of this Committee in the previous Council term.
Councilmember Gray nominated herself to be Chair of the Committee, challenging Reynolds’s reelection. However, Reynolds was unanimously reelected by the Committee members.

Former Councilmembers Preston Worley and Kathy Plomin served as the Chair and Vice Chair of this Committee in the prior term. Neither Councilmember ran for reelection in 2024.
The Budget, Finance, and Economic Development (BFED) Committee will hold their leadership elections on January 21st. Membership for the BFED Committee has not been published yet.
