On Thursday, Council will hold two Confirmation Hearings: one for the reappointment of Johnathon Davis to the Planning Commission, and one for a nominee to the Board of Adjustment.

Johnathon Davis has been nominated to serve his first full term on the Planning Commission. Davis is the Managing Principal for JT Davis Asset Management. Davis was appointed to the Planning Commission in December 2023 to serve a partial term after Headley Bell left the Planning Commission. Davis’s Confirmation Hearing will be held at 4:30pm.

The Confirmation Hearing for the Board of Adjustment nominee will be held at 5pm. The name of the appointee to the Board of Adjustment is not yet public.

The Board of Adjustment is a body that approves some planning decisions, including:

  • Variance requests. A developer can seek a “variance” from certain planning regulations.

    • For example, if regulations require a 5-foot sidewalk but the developer believes only a 4’ sidewalk can fit, they would seek a variance to build a thinner sidewalk.

  • Conditional use permits. Conditional uses are a category of things a property owner is allowed to do in a zone, but only with a special permit.

    • Unhosted short-term rentals require a conditional use permit in many of Lexington’s residential zones.

Both Confirmation Hearings will be held in Council Chambers. You can attend in-person or watch live on LexTV.
