Session 1 Recap
On Sunday, March 1st, CivicLex kicked off Lexington's first-ever Civic Assembly. The day brought together 36 randomly selected residents at Transylvania University to begin the assembly process, which is focused on improving representation, trust, and participation in local government through a review of the Urban County Charter. The assembly will run through March 29.
During the orientation day, Assembly members met for the first time, and spent two hours learning about each other's backgrounds and perspectives. After that, the Assembly heard from Mayor Linda Gorton and Vice Mayor Dan Wu before breaking into small groups to learn the basics of how the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government is structured. The Assembly also heard from Fayette County Clerk Susan Lamb about the role that the charter plays in making policy, and then learned about the history of the Urban County Charter and past charter review processes.
