CivicLex Kicks off Teacher Externship Program!

Last week, CivicLex officially kicked off our new Teacher Externship program. This program takes teachers from FCPS who are preparing students for career readiness and introduces them to ways that those career pathways can connect with local government.

Our Director of Civic Education, Stephanie Mobley, took two cohorts of teachers in the Medical and Leadership career pathways at Bryan Station High School to meet different departments and divisions within LFUCG where those pathways could be applicable. Teachers heard from Council Aides, the Mayor’s Chief of Staff Tyler Scott, ONE Lexington, Paramedicine, and the Lexington Senior Center. They even got to meet some Councilmembers!

There were great questions and conversations, and we’re excited to see the impact these experiences have on each classroom. A big thank you to everyone who took the time out of their day for these externships!

We’re looking forward to another day of externships this week focused on Information Technology and Engineering. We hope to expand this program in the future! If you are interested in supporting that expansion, you can make a donation here.
