ARPA funding reallocated to community projects

At Council Work Session last Tuesday, Council took the first steps toward reallocating $6 million of American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds from the Lexington Farmers' Market new facility at Davis Park, and the Salvation Army's new property location.

Council decided to take the money back from these projects because neither would be completed by December 31st, 2026, which is the federal deadline to have all ARPA money spent and all projects completed. The funding was reallocated from these projects and redistributed to the following projects:

  • $2 million to the city's Affordable Housing Office

  • $2 million to the Community Land Trust for a new Community Center in Davis Park

  • $1 million to renovate the Black & Williams Community Center gynasium

  • $1 million to the redesign of Phoenix Park
