GGP Begins Work on the 2022 Disparity Study’s Findings

In the General Government & Planning Committee Meeting, Council will discuss the results of 2022’s Disparity Study. The Disparity Study, commissioned by Council in 2021 to examine racial disparities in the city’s contracting process, was presented in a November 2022 Work Session. You can our piece on the results of that study here.

In that November 2022 Work Session, Council voted to place the item in the General Government and Planning Committee. The Committee this week will hear another presentation on the results of the study, and will discuss ways to implement recommendations from the study to make the city’s contracting process more diverse and equitable. Recommendations include:

  • Improving outreach and advertisement.

  • Establishing a more prompt payment system.

  • Setting diversity goals for contracted projects.

  • Creating support-services for minority businesses bidding for contracts.

The GGP Committee meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 19th at 1pm in Council Chambers. You can attend in-person or watch live on LexTV.
