Global Lex Annual Update

In November 15th’s General Government and Social Services (GGSS) Committee Meeting, Isabel Taylor of Global Lex presented the office’s annual update. Global Lex works with local English learning and immigrant residents on accessing city services, finding community resources, and provides a host of multicultural services to LFUCG and organizations around Lexington.

Much of the annual report contains information about the languages spoken by Lexington residents and public school students. Here are some stats from the update:

  • There are 96 languages other than English spoken by 8,540 students in Fayette County Public Schools.

    • The top five of these languages are Spanish, Swahili, Arabic, Nepali, and French.

  • There are 142 languages spoken by all of Global Lex’s clients in 2022, with 28 countries represented. Here are those 28 countries:

Council took no action relating to Global Lex in this meeting.
