New public comment restricting media use to pass this week

In Thursday’s Council Meeting, Council will have their final vote to approve new rules surrounding multimedia materials in public comment. The new policy would revise existing public comment rules to clarify that public comment is “a time for residents to address the Council with their own spoken comments.”

The policy adds language that would prohibit the public from being able to present multimedia materials to Council during public comment time, including playing audio or video from their personal devices into the microphone. These changes would prevent staff from having to vet multimedia content before meetings.

If members of the public have materials they would like to share with Council, they would need to place paper copies of the materials in a tray outside of Council Chambers immediately before the meeting; or they could send the materials to Council via email before the meeting.

You can review the presentation slides and the multimedia public comment policy starting on page four of this packet.

You can attend Thursday, June 27th’s Council Meeting in Council Chambers at 6pm, or watch live on LexTV.
