Public Comment on the Comprehensive Plan
Council had COW on Tuesday, May 9th at which they discussed possible amendments and accepted public comment on the drafted goals. Vice Mayor Wu requested that Councilmembers send any amendments they are considering to him ahead of their final meeting on May 23rd, where they will make the motions and vote to adopt the Goals and Objectives as amended. The final draft will likely receive a first and second reading at the following Council Meetings and are required to be fully adopted by mid-June.
Council met on Tuesday, May 9th at 5pm in Council Chambers to continue these discussions and hear public comment. You can watch the recording of the meeting on LexTV.
Update:
Several organizations and community groups showed up to give comments. We heard a variety of concerns, including:
Many groups advocated for the expansion of the Urban Service Boundary by 5,000 acres over in the Athens-Boonsboro area. The Building Industry Association, CommerceLex, Lexington For Everyone, and others all advocated for this immediate expansion to be included as part of the Goals & Objectives
Representatives from other groups, such as Fayette Alliance and the Old Richmond Road Neighborhood Association, requested that Council adopt the drafted Goals & Objectives as written
Folks from the Lexington Tenant’s Union came to talk about the ever increasing housing costs and tenants’ rights
Bluegrass Youth Sustainability Council and others also voiced concerns about climate change and Lexington’s sustainability goals
