Public input changes passed by Council!

Council has officially approved a change to the public comment period for formal Council Meetings.

Starting in January 2025, formal Council Meetings — usually held on Thursdays at 6pm — will have two public comment periods instead of one.

  • Residents will now be able to speak to items on the Council’s agenda near the beginning of meetings, before the readings and votes on legislation take place.

  • The traditional period for Public Comment in Council Meetings, at the end of the agenda, will remain in place for topics that are not on the agenda.

This change to the public comment structure brings the Council Meetings in line with the Council Work Session public comment structure, which has public comment split into two periods.

As a reminder, this recommendation was made in CivicLex’s Public Input report, released almost two years ago. Council has since implemented many of the recommendations from the report.
