Richard visits Next City’s Vanguard Summit!

This past week, CivicLex's Executive Director Richard Young joined the non-profit publication Next City's annual Vanguard Summit as an alumni of the program. The Vanguard summit brings together 30-40 Vanguards - competitively selected leaders from cities across the United States that participate in the fellowship - to learn from each other about innovative solutions to the complicated issues that communities face.

This year's summit was in El Paso, Texas and Ciudad Juarez in Chihuahua, Mexico. The summit covered a wide range of issues in this border community, including binational economic development and housing strategies and how they navigated healthcare supply chain disruptions during the pandemic with completely closed borders.

Richard also took the message of CivicLex and all the good things happening in Lexington to the summit, sharing about how our work is building connections between residents and local government. We think it is important to have our staff attend these summits - it helps CivicLex grow our networks, opening up opportunities for partnership, shared learning, and even funding!
