The city is taking input on the future of growth in Lexington
As you may have heard, The draft Goals and Objectives for Lexington’s 2045 Comprehensive Plan have been released! These Goals and Objectives set a vision for how Lexington will grow and change in the future. So now what?
The Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on Thursday, February 16th at 1:30 pm in Council Chambers to gather input from the community. The meeting will begin with a presentation from the Division of Planning giving an overview of the draft, followed by public comment from people who wish to share their thoughts. The Planning Commission may or may not vote on accepting the draft Goals and Objectives -- if they do not, they will schedule a meeting at a later date to discuss and vote.
As a reminder, the Goals and Objectives will be the guiding recommendations for how Lexington grows and changes between now and 2045.
Once the Planning Commission votes to move the Goals and Objectives forward, Council will have 90 days to vote on the draft.
Both Planning Commission and Council can make whatever changes they'd like to the draft, but Council will vote to approve the final version.
After Planning Commission and Council both pass the Goals and Objectives, Planning Commission will begin drafting the Elements and Implementation section -- the actual policy to make the Comprehensive Plan happen. The public will have an opportunity to weigh in again on this Elements and Implementation section, with the goal of having the whole plan finalized and approved by the Planning Commission the end of this summer.
If you have any thoughts or feelings about these new Goals and Objectives, we encourage you to attend the public hearing and speak to the Planning Commission about what you envision for Lexington's future!
The Goals and Objectives Public Hearing will be held on Thursday on February 16 at 1:30pm in Council Chambers. You can watch in-person or live on LexTV.
