Planning Commission voted to adopt the ADU ZOTA

Updated 10/30/23:

The Planning Commission adopted the new version of a Zoning Ordinance Text Amendment (ZOTA) loosening regulations on Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs). This revised ZOTA is intended to make it easier for homeowners to build ADUs on their property. You can read more about the changes in our previous write-up.

This ADU ZOTA will now go before Council for a vote. The General Government & Planning Committee heard a presentation of the changes from Planning Staff on September 19th, and may decide to take this into Committee for further consideration before the entire Council votes to adopt it.

A Zoning Ordinance Text Amendment (ZOTA) to reduce restrictions on Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) will go before the Planning Commission for a public hearing and vote on Thursday, October 26th.

Planning Staff has recommended significant changes to the ADU ordinance to encourage more ADUs to be built in Lexington. Planning Staff is trying to grow the use of ADUs with the goal of increasing the number of affordable and inter-generational living options. You can read our previous write-up about these changes here.

The Planning Commission will hear public comment on this ADU ZOTA at their meeting on Thursday, October 26th at 1:30pm in Council Chambers. You can attend in person or watch live on LexTV.
