In Tuesday’s General Government and Planning (GGP) Committee, Council will hear about  the Rural Land Management Board’s recommendations for how to regulate short-term rentals in rural Fayette County.

In last Thursday’s Special Committee meeting, the General Government and Planning (GGP) Committee voted to advance new regulations for short-term rentals (STRs) in Lexington.

In Tuesday’s General Government and Planning (GGP) Committee, Purchase of Development Rights Director Beth Overman will present recommendations on regulating short-term rentals (STR) in the Rural Service Area (RSA) — this is the area of Fayette County located outside the Urban Service Boundary (USB).

This week’s Budget, Finance, & Economic Development Committee meeting will feature a presentation on the implementation of new Short-Term Rental (STR) regulations that were adopted in July of this year.

The Planning Commission adopted the new version of a Zoning Ordinance Text Amendment (ZOTA) loosening regulations on Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs).

The Rural Land Management Board (RLMB) is moving forward on drafting its own recommended language for how ADUs and short-term rentals (STRs) will be regulated outside of the Urban Service Area.

Council will vote on a comprehensive Short Term Rental (STR) regulation proposal. This proposal will set licensing and registration requirements for STR operators, and regulate how STRs can be operated in various zones in Lexington.

The Short Term Rental regulation put forward by Councilmembers James Brown and Liz Sheehan was passed out of Work Session and received first reading.

In a Special Planning and Public Safety (PPS) Committee Meeting, Councilmembers will discuss a Zoning Ordinance Text Amendment (ZOTA) that creates regulations for Short Term Rentals. Short Term Rentals are units rented for limited amounts of time, generally by tourists — typically, these are AirBNB or Vrbo rentals.

In Tuesday’s Planning and Public Safety Committee Meeting, there will be a presentation on the Short Term Rental Workgroup, created and led by Councilmembers James Brown (District 1) and Liz Sheehan (District 5).
